Things To Know
Currency & Credit Cards
Major credit cards are accepted in the Philippines. However, we recommend exchanging USD 100 to the Philippine Peso so you have cash in hand if needed. This is preferred when giving tips and buying from local stores that only accept cash.
Electrical Plugs and Voltages
Please remember to bring an adapter for your chargers and electrical devices. The Philippines has a voltage of 220V - those coming from North America will need to check their chargers and power supplies to ensure that it can accommodate the higher voltage (Canadian and American voltages are 120V). If unsure, please obtain a converter to use your charges and electrical devices for safety.
Language
Almost all Filipinos speak English. All airport, hotel, and transportation staff will speak English fluently, so do not hesitate to ask for help.
However, if you wish to learn a few Filipino words while on vacation, feel free to use the following phrases.
“Salamat” (sah-lah-maht) – Thank you. Expressing gratitude is essential in Filipino culture.
“Busog!” (Buh-sog) - I’m full. This is one of the ways to let people know if you’ve had enough food. Fun fact: This is the first Tagalog word Maulik learned. :)
